US Army soldiers find a massive German treasure hoard of gold bullion, currency, jewels and works of art hidden in Merkers, Germany salt mine near the end of World War II. The almost 200 tons of gold was thought to be the entire remaining reserves of the German Reichsbank. The narrator states that a ton of gold = about $1 million, but I believe at that time gold was pegged at $35/troy ounce instead of the roughly $1200/troy ounce that it is today.
