This video reveals that within less than 25 seconds trailer sway can cause loss of control which could end up causing serious injury or death. Fortunately, no one was hurt in this preventable wreck.
In addition to probably not knowing how to notice and react to a swaying trailer, it looks like the trailer may be too large for the tow vehicle. Just because the owner's manual may state the trailer weight rating (TWR) is 9,000 pounds, or whatever, does not mean that is the max towing capacity for every towing configuration. It's not that simple. Also, Ford half-ton vehicle owner's manuals warn not to tow trailers with a frontal area larger than 60 square feet. Poor trailer load balance can contribute to sway too.
