On September 17, 2019, Israeli F-35 stealth fighters attempted to attack positions along the Iraqi-Syrian border. The attack was a complete failure because no one was hurt on the ground, but Russian S-300 and S-400 air defense systems were incapable of detecting Israeli F-35 Lightning II stealth fighters flying over the Syrian capital. The effectiveness of the Russian S-400 is called into question by yet another Israeli Air Force strike, as two further Israeli jets were unopposed in their entry into Syrian airspace. Another interesting fact is that Russian jets didn't try to intercept Israeli F-35 aircraft. This may indicate that Russian stealth detection technologies were ineffective. Russia gave the Syrian Armed Forces the go-ahead to fully operationalize the S-300 and engage Israeli aircraft at the first sign of a threat. But obviously, 1975's surface-to-air missile system is unable to identify modern fifth-generation stealth fighters, but what about the S-400? Russia's S-400 Triumf, or the SA-21 Growler, has developed credibility as one of the few weapons capable of thwarting American stealth capabilities.
