Newborn screens are blood tests that check for rare, but potentially life-threatening disorders that may otherwise not be apparent for months or years. These tests are screening tools that help identify infants that need further diagnostic testing. This early detection allows for immediate treatment and intervention to reduce or prevent serious problems caused by the disorder.
