Schwerin is the capital of the state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany. Schwerin has around 100,000 inhabitants. Schwerin is located on the shore of a lake with the same name, Schwerin See in the outskirts of Hamburg. Besides the historic city center (with the impressive Cathedral and the St Paul's and St Nicholas churches), the Schelfstadt quarter, and the attractive lake, the main highlight of the city is the romantic Schwerin Palace. The Palace is situated on a island in the lake and connected to the shore with a bridge. The Schwerin Palace is characterized by its golden dome, the church, the throne and the Niklot statue. Since 1990 the Palace is the seat of the parliament of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
