ABSTRACT
This dissertation is comprised of two essays that examine the relationship between the financial inclusion initiatives, both regulatory and firm-based, and US financial institution financial performance.
Essay 1 employs regression analysis to assess the financial performance of credit unions with the low-income designation. Essay 2 examines the impact of both overdraft protection regulations and individual bank policy announcements on the stock price of US banks.
The research findings provide insights for financial institution practitioners, investors, and regulatory agencies regarding the influence of various regulatory activities, specifically ones that are designed to promote fair financial services, on the U.S. financial institutions who provide these services.
