Angelo Rondello, piano
On Classical King’s “Northwest Focus Live” with Sean MacLean, pianist Angelo Rondello performs Piazzolla's Milonga del Angel.
Milonga del Angel is part of the Angel Suit, a musical composition by Astor Piazzolla that consists of four pieces —which can be played independently— Introduction of the Angel, Milonga of the Angel, La Muerte del Ángel and Resurrection of the Angel.
The work was composed for the Quinteto Nuevo Tango, directed by Piazzolla himself. The composition began in 1962 and was finished in 1965, based on a play by Alberto Rodríguez Muños. In the play, the music accompanies "the story of an angel who tries to heal the broken spirits of humans in a house in Buenos Aires, only to die in a knife fight."
