Premature babies are babies born before 37 weeks of gestation are called as premature babies. In case a premature baby is delivered by caesarean section, any baby delivered by caesarean section has a higher chance of fluid being retained in the lungs, what we say medically as transient tachypnoea of newborn. Either it is a preterm or a term, they have a higher incidence of transient tachypnoea of newborn if they are going to be delivered by elective caesarean section, not an emergency . It is an elective caesarean section if you are going to do it prematurely. The lungs gets matured by 38 weeks and 6 days. Any baby born before 39 weeks, they have a chance of having respiratory distress. So fast breathing could be there, lungs could be immature or fluids could be there in it. If a mother has a fever or if the mother has fever or of thee mother has what is called as chorioamnionitis, it is tenderness or pain in the uterus. Mother is having a high blood count, total count of more than 15000 and the mother has urinary infection, the baby has a chance of infection and the infections will be transmitted to the baby, as a result of which the baby might manifest the fast breathing in the immediate neonatal period. So these are some of the reasons why the baby has breathing problems.
