Bussink’s concept for the GT R SpeedLegend came about more than a year ago. It was inspired by his admiration for the Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss and Mercedes F1 racing cars. To make his idea a reality, he turned to a company that was known at the time for building DTM cars, HWA AG.
The specialist used the standard Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster as the base vehicle for the project. From there it copied the missing windshield and the missing A-pillar of the SLR. Then the tuner made extensive use of carbon fiber to reduce the weight of the vehicle. Next, the designer took a page out of the halo of the F1 cars and placed a bespoke “Y” speedbow in the cockpit with sensors and LEDs on the base as a safety measure. Finally, the car’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is boosted to 850 hp.
