When we say "be as free as a bird," we aspire to a life of freedom, soaring high up in the sky. In reality, however, freedom has been ripped away for numerous bird species, as they are illegally kept in suffocating cages and sold as pets.
Earlier this year, over 1700 native birds were brought to #WildlifeSOS for treatment and care after being seized from illegal trade with the assistance of the Delhi Forest Department, volunteers from PETA India, and the Delhi Police. With birds being the most exploited group, parakeets and munias are frequently encountered pets in Indian homes. From historical times, numerous species have been threatened to an extent that they are now on the verge of extinction.
Our dedicated team went above and beyond to save the lives of the numerous birds that were rescued. Watching them finally being free, without a worry in the world, fills us with emotions that are beyond words. Only with efforts like these, we can make India’s skies a haven for these winged creatures.
