Here's a video that I wish was shown to me before we started the licensing process.
A few takeaways:
Stay organized with your paperwork. Find a system that works for you to keep digital copies of everything and organize it so you can easily find it again. This will help you as a foster parent too!
Waiting is hard! And sometimes you are waiting because that's just how long it takes, sometimes it's because there's an error, sometimes there are staffing considerations, etc. It's ok to be proactive, but be sure you check yourself too. Ask for the general timeframe so you can set your expectations.
Remember, every time you call or email slows down the licensing worker :) It's a balance of follow-up and patience that again, is great practice for when you are a foster parent.
While you wait, get extra training for caring for medical needs or a higher level of emotional support, gather your community so you know who will be able to support you, and leave town! I mean it! :) Yes, travel is possible as a foster parent, but it depends on many factors.
What do you wish someone had told you when you were getting licensed? Feel free to add to this in the comments below! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
