The iftar bazar at Chawk Bazar has a history of four hundred years. In front of Shahi Masjid at Chawk Bazar, the traditional Iftar bazar started once again. Thousands of food lovers from different corners of the city flock around there every day to buy their favourite dishes.
There are almost hundred items of iftar including common iftar items. The famous items are: Boro baper polay khay, different types of kebabs such as shuti kebab, zali kebab, mutton kebab etc, you will also get shahi jilapi and shahi paratha (special bread that has mutton, beef or chicken in side). They were originated from the Dhaka Nawab family. Besides these, mutton roast, chicken roast, borhani, matha (a drink made from milk) and other sweet and savory items are also available.
Yousuf Sumon, a resident of Mohammadpur, expresses his love for the Nawabi food, "For the last three years, I come here to buy the nawabi foods. Few dishes are my favourite shahi paratha, mutton roast and matha." Although the streets are bustling, yet there is a different charm in the bustles! The sellers chant while selling, "Boro Baper Polay Khay ar Thonga voira loia jay (Elite father's son eats 'Boro baper pola' and takes a full packet home)." "Kabab khay Nabab (Nawab eats Kabab)."

Badsha Miah, who sells Boro baper polay khay, along with various kebab, roast, says, "We do not sell unhygienic food as Ramadan is a holy month and our customers are pious who fasts all day long and breaks the fast with my food. So, I cannot sell bad food to the people. If I sell unhealthy food, the customer may not do anything but I will be punished at the resurrection day."
Seasonal fruits are also available there. Khayer Rayhan, a juice maker, says, "After fasting all day long in this extreme hot, a glass of chilled juice will take away your tiredness and will give you energy. The drink will not only give you comfort but also it is nutritious."
