Amsterdam's interconnected network of moat-canals, facilitated the city's rise as a major trading hub, connecting its commercial activities, with the global maritime trade of the time. Amsterdam's strategic location, entrepreneurial spirit, and canals, drove the city's economic prosperity, and propelled it to prominence as a crucial trading center. The end of the 16th century and into the 17th century, known as the Dutch Golden Age, stands as a pinnacle in Amsterdam's history. During this period, the city experienced an unprecedented surge in wealth, artistic expression, and intellectual enlightenment. It became a haven for artists, scientists, and philosophers, leaving an indelible mark on its cultural landscape. The Golden Age is immortalized, in Amsterdam's iconic, canal ring area. The canal ring area of Amsterdam lays on more than 100 kilometers. With 1500 bridges linking 90 islands, the canal area is made of 5 ring canals, built at the beginning of the 17th century, and is the historic centre (Centrum) of Amsterdam.
