United by seven iconic bridges across a bustling Quayside, Newcastle Upon Tyne and Gateshead form a single, diverse and extremely vibrant visitor destination in the North East of England.

Newcastle upon Tyne is a university city on the River Tyne in northeast England. With its twin city, Gateshead, it was a major shipbuilding and manufacturing hub during the Industrial Revolution and is now a centre of business, arts and sciences. Spanning the Tyne, modern Gateshead Millennium Bridge, noted for its unique tilting aperture, is a symbol of the 2 cities.

NEWCASTLE QUAYSIDE
The area around the Tyne Gorge, between Newcastle Upon Tyne on the north bank and Gateshead on the south bank, is the famous Newcastle Upon Tyne - Gateshead Quayside. It is famed for its series of dramatic bridges, including the Tyne Bridge of 1928 which was built by Dorman Long of Middlesbrough, the High Level Bridge of 1849, the first road/rail bridge in the world, and the Swing Bridge of 1876.

The Quayside in Newcastle Upon Tyne is a lively stretch along the River Tyne, home to the landmark Gateshead Millennium Bridge. Once a commercial dock, the area is now a nightlife hotspot with bars, restaurants, and clubs. On Sundays, Quayside Market sells local produce, crafts, and street food. The opposite bank is dominated by the modern BALTIC art gallery and the steel curves of Sage Gateshead, a popular concert venue.

NEWCASTLE TYNE BRIDGE
The Tyne Bridge is a through arch bridge over the River Tyne in North East England, linking Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead. The bridge was designed by the engineering firm Mott, Hay and Anderson, who later designed the Forth Road Bridge, and was built by Dorman Long and Co. of Middlesbrough.

GATESHEAD MILLENIUM BRIDGE
Large-scale regeneration efforts have led to the replacement of former shipping premises with modern new office developments; an innovative tilting bridge - the Millenium Bridge - integrated the Quayside more closely with the Gateshead Quayside, home to the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art (the venue for the Turner Prize 2011) and the Norman Foster-designed The Sage Gateshead music centre. The Newcastle Upon Tyne and Gateshead Quaysides are now a thriving, cosmopolitan area with bars, restaurants, hotels and public spaces.
