STORYLINE
A 104-year-old British veteran of World War One led the annual ceremony of remembrance for the war dead in Ypres, Belgium.
Arthur Halestrop, a former Royal Engineer, and hundreds of members of the public gathered at the Menin gate memorial to remember those who lost their lives in "The Great War".
This year marked the 85th anniversary of The Armistice.
The arch was built from 1923 until 1927 on the site of the former city gate that many soldiers passed as they made their way to the trenches.
Under the roof and against the walls of the monument are the names of 54-thousand and 896 British and Commonwealth soldiers that were reported missing in the Great War, and who have no known grave.
From 11 November, 1929 the Last Post has been sounded at the Menin Gate memorial every night and in all weathers by the Ypres Fire Department.
The only exception to this was during the four years of the German occupation of Ypres from 20 May 1940 to 6 September 1944.
