When I made the new handwheel for my Mini Lathes Carriage, I run into the problem of not having enough space any more for the cross slide handle. The handle of the cross slide now collided with the new made carriage handwheel. Provisorily I switched to a smaller handle for the cross slide, but my plan was to upgrade the cross slide too with a whole new handle. Now this project is done and here comes the first part of the built video.
The space on this little machines is very limited so everything remains really tight. But nontheless the result is really satisfying. I decided to install a much bigger scale drum which makes it easier to read and use the dial. In this part of the video I'm making the new spacer/mounting block which gives about 15mm more travel, the bearing block part, the graduated scale drum and the handwheel. The next part will be about the sofisticated locking mechanism for the dial which is copied from swiss high end Schaublin machines, the new spindle and nut and everything else for completing this project.
