In this Archinest review, we explore the Orcas House, a breathtaking modern retreat designed by Leah Martin of Allied8 Architects. Suspended off a cliff with stunning views to the north and south, this unique home seamlessly blends with its natural surroundings. The aging Kebony exterior harmonizes with the forest, while the bright and minimalist interior offers a flexible, open-plan living space.
Built with sustainability in mind, the home uses 100% recycled US-made steel and minimal concrete to reduce its carbon footprint. Despite its compact footprint of just 1,386 square feet, the house is designed to sleep more than 15 people, with a spacious primary bedroom, a bunk room for 10, and a versatile loft space.
Join us as we dive into the clever design, eco-friendly features, and thoughtful integration of nature in this modern masterpiece on Orcas Island!
