Aubrey and Tiffany Hodges are fourth-generation, Alabama family farmers who have innovated to make their operation profitable. Back in 2018, they also questioned why they were spending upwards of $285 a bag on seed corn. When Aubrey heard an independent company called Hybrid85 was selling multiple varieties of non-GMO corn for just $85/bag, he told Tiffany.
“$85 a bag?!” Tiffany said. “That sounds too good to be true.”
Aubrey called and talked personally through his concerns with co-owner and agronomist Nate Belcher. Satisfied, the Hodges gave Hybrid85 a shot. It not only cut their seed cost per acre by two-thirds, but Hybrid85’s 117 Day hybrid out-performed all other hybrids they planted that year.
“Now we’re fully Hybrid85," Aubrey says.
Tiffany says it feels good to invest in a company that “actually wants the farmer to make money at the end of the day.
“Because the less it takes you to raise your crop, the more money that’s gonna be in your pocket.”
