How do Deaf people order at restaurants? 🍝

D/deaf people prefer to order for themselves! So as a hearing person, you should never talk over them or help unless they’ve specifically asked you to do so 🙏

As a waiter or waitress, you should ALWAYS look and speak directly to the D/deaf customers' eyes 👀 Never leave them out of the conversation by only making eye contact and speaking towards the hearing customers 🙅‍♀️

D/deaf people use gestures, hand motions, and pointing to communicate with the waiter or waitress. If needed they’ll ask friends or family for help, but only jump in if they ask!

Make the dining experience accessible by offering nonobstructive decor and seating options, good lightining, and an easy to read menu!
