Join us for an engaging conversation with the creators of the new bilingual Yiddish-English short animated puppet film, LABZIK: TALES OF A CLEVER PUP. Adapted and directed by theatre-maker Jake Krakovsky from a book of children's stories by beloved Yiddish author Chaver Paver, and with a new translation by Miriam Udel (Associate Professor of German Studies and Jewish Studies, Emory University), LABZIK: TALES OF A CLEVER PUP follows the misadventures of a clever mutt named Labzik and the working-class Jewish family that adopts him.
Balancing playful humor with gritty realism, the stories find Labzik and the other residents of the Bronx up against social and political forces that have contemporary resonance: unemployment, political protest, racism, police brutality, even an airborne disease. We’ll explore these themes and more, including delving into the creative process behind the project.
