With a cab-forward design, wraparound grille and high belt-line the Nissan NV200, is Nissan's latest attempt at redesigning the work van. Equipped with an ecologically sound clean diesel engine, the most striking and innovative feature of the van is the slide-out storage pod.
"This is a concept car with a overall length of 4.4 meters, this van houses a compact 1.6 meter long storage cartridge which can extend outward, to create a multifunctional space that can be used for many different purposes inside the van. This concept van was specifically designed for oceanographers, so that after they put away their equipment away in the storage pod they can work on processing images in the work space provided."
When extended the storage cartridge reveals an internal workspace housing computers and equipment, a computer table drops down to reveal LCD monitors and the front passenger seat swings back to face the table. Power for the equipment inside the van comes from a small generator which is charged by solar panels on the roof. Developed by a joint UK and Japan based Nissan design team, the principals and features of this van are futuristic yet functional and feasible. This flexible concept vehicle could have potential applications in a wide variety of areas.
