The question is what is Botulinum Toxin? What is Botox? Really really confusing unfortunately because there are lots of different types of Botulinum Toxin of which Botox is only one type. Essentially Botulinum Toxin is a Toxin released by a bacteria so the bacteria is present in some foods and water and when you get an infection it's the toxin released by the bacteria which causes the muscle weakness so it's not the bacteria itself it's the toxin Botulinum Toxin is the purified toxin from the clostridium bacteria which is being purified really important to understand that not all botulinum toxins are Botox. A bit like vacuum cleaners, not all vacuum cleaners are hoovers and not all botulinum toxin treatments are Botox, Botox is the name of a particular brand of Botulinum toxin and there are three main companies in the UK which produce Botulinum Toxin and Allergan produce Botox so Botox is the name of the Allergan product.
