SUBVERSIVE THEATRE PRESENTS
BERTOLT BRECHT'S A MAN'S A MAN
JULY 25-AUGUST 10, 2013
For the 2013 Buffalo "infringement" Festival, Subversive Theatre is excited to present in collaboration with Post-Industrial Productions a wildly inventive multi-media re-interpretation of Bertolt Brecht's epic anti-war black comedy A MAN'S A MAN.
Originally written by Brecht in 1926 and set in British-controlled Colonial India, his outrageous play seems all TOO current as it depicts western soldiers warped into monstrous killers by war in central Asia.
With an original adaptation by Director Bob Van Valin*, our rendition re-envisions the story to focus on American soldiers in modern day Afghanistan bringing Bertolt Brecht's incisive anti-imperialist jibes as close to home as possible.
This techno-savvy production sports a whirlwind of stunning video montages developed by Bob Van Valin* & Kevin Birzynski as well as inventive multi-use sets, props, and costumes courtesy of designer Max Levitt. Lighting Design is by Subversive Theatre's Founder & Artistic Director Kurt Schneiderman*.
A MAN'S A MAN stars Leo DiBello as Brecht's innocent "Galy Gay" transformed into the savage killing machine "Jeraiah Jip." The cast also features the acting talents of Jonathan Lee, Shayna Raichilson-Zadok, Eric Madia, Bryan Figueroa, London Lee, Bekki Sliwa, Livia Armstrong, Jessica Maria Stahr, Cory McCants, and others.
A MAN'S A MAN runs July 25th -- August 10th, 2013 with performances Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8pm. There will also be two Sunday performances on July 28th and August 4th at 2pm. Tickets are $10 general admission. For all Thursday performances other than Opening Night, admission is pay-what-you-can. All performances are at Subversive Theatre's regular performance venue, The Manny Fried Playhouse at 255 Great Arrow Avenue on the third floor of North Buffalo's historic Great Arrow Building.
