Taiwan says it's recorded a record number of Chinese military jets flying into its air defence zone. The defence ministry says 25 aircraft, including fighters and nuclear-capable bombers entered Taiwanese airspace on Monday alone. Combat aircraft was dispatched to warn the Chinese jets, while missile systems were deployed to monitor them. China, which views Taiwan as a breakaway province, has carried out regular flights over international waters surrounding the nation in recent months. International editor of the Sydney Morning Herald, Peter Hartcher says that the timing and speed of China's assertion is surprising.
