The Iraqi government's battle to retake Anbar province is expected to be long, tough and expensive. Islamic state group fighters have controlled parts of the region for over a year but the country's PM is hopeful the US will provide more support. During his first official trip to Washington, Haider al-Abadi is expected to ask US president Barack Obama for billions of dollars of advanced US weaponry. Amongst the items on his shopping list: unarmed surveillance drones, Apache helicopters and ammunition.
