Hey, you know that graphic novel "Drama" by Raina Telgemeier? It's all about middle school theater and friendships, but get this – it got banned in some schools. Let me break it down for you.
So, the thing is, "Drama" talks about LGBTQ+ characters and relationships. It's cool that it's showing diversity, right? But some grown-ups weren't cool with it. They thought it was too much for us to handle because of the LGBTQ+ stuff.
They were worried that it would confuse or influence us. Like, they thought it was promoting being gay or something. But here's the thing: LGBTQ+ stuff is real life, and we're growing up in a time where understanding and respecting it is super important.
Banning "Drama" doesn't make sense to a lot of us high schoolers. We're already way more aware of these things than people might think. Plus, the book isn't pushing an agenda; it's just reflecting what's out there in the world.
"Drama" is actually pretty great because it's about friendships, crushes, and all the awkward stuff we're going through. It's a shame that some places tried to ban it just because it's being honest about LGBTQ+ characters. But honestly, it's books like this that help us be more accepting and open-minded.

Hi, My name is Crystal and I'm starting high school this Fall. I love getting lost in a great book and reading can take my imagination to places I've never been.
Imagine my surprise when I visited my local public library in New York City, I was disappointed to learn that some of my favorite books were being banned in states like Texas, Florida, Missouri, Utah, and South Carolina.
I'm grateful that I live in a state where I can easily borrow these banned books but others are not as fortunate. I want to start this channel to bring awareness to those banned books whilst protecting our First Amendment freedom of speech.
Please subscribe, share, and like my channel so we can push back against laws banning books. Thank you!
