C. Bechstein pianos occupy a very prominent part of piano building history. They are considered one of the big four, attaining the name “King of Pianos” along their trail of success and dominance in the European piano industry. The maker was as prized for their durability as they were for their musical character. It was often noted that the concert pianist Liszt would only play on a Bechstein because it was the only instrument to stand up to his ferocious style of performance. Bechstein has played an influential role in both classical, as well as popular, music throughout the 20th century. Being one of the most recorded instruments in history. Some of Europe’s biggest musical acts have recorded their top hits on Bechstein’s; from The Beatles, to ABBA, Queen and Elton John.
This particular instrument has been lovingly cared for in Oakville Ontario, Canada for decades. Its serial number is 53004 which places its manufacturing date around 1900, about the time that Bechstein was the piano in Britain, France, Germany and Russia. The piano has received care over its lifetime, including new pins and strings, a new set of premium hammers, and the soundboard has also been restored to perfect working order. The instrument was fully inspected by Merriam pianos and a written certified report is available on request.
