Spectacular eruptions from Mount Etna lit up the sky on Saturday and rivers of smoking red lava streamed down the slope of the new southeast crater.
Impressive activity from Europe's tallest volcano drew tourists and local residents to watch on the Mediterranean island of Sicily.
Italy's Guardia di Finanzia police officers monitored the eruptions as curious crowds took selfies.
The 3,330 metre high volcano often erupts but rarely causes damage, it can burst into spectacular action several times a year, spewing lava and ash high over the Mediterranean island.
The last major eruption was in 1992.
