Did you grow up celebrating Shavuot or Pentecost? 🌾🔥
Shavuot is a Jewish holiday which celebrates the giving of the Torah (the first 5 books of Moses) to the Jewish people at Mt. Sinai. ⛰️
Interestingly the gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost actually happened on the same day on the Jewish calendar as Shavuot.
The gift of God’s Word and of His Spirit happened on the same calendar day! 📖🔥
This year, as with Passover and Easter, Pentecost and Shavuot are taking place quite far apart due to the difference between the Jewish and Gregorian calendars. 🗓️
While many Christians around the world are celebrating Pentecost today, Shavuot will be celebrated in Israel on June 11th.
There is a deep connection between Shavuot and Pentecost. For example did you know that some Jewish rabbis describe the giving of the Torah at Mt Sinai in a very similar way to how the Holy Spirit was given in the New Testament?
