We are doing a showcase to introduce Chinese food in Malaysia. The "Da Chao" 大炸 are very common Chinese restaurants throughout Malaysia. It literally means "Big Fry", ie. various types of dishes. Here are some of the more common dishes. Hope you enjoy it.
Review:
1. Fish Fillet with Ginger & Spring Onion Rice, Score: 8/10
Soft fish fillets cooked with ginger and spring onion. Very appetizing.
2. "KamHeong" 金香 (Golden Fragrant) Fried Fish Fillet Rice, Score: 7.5/10
KamHeong has a mixture of curry powder, spices & dried shrimps. Very umami, spicy & fragrant.
3. "GuLou Yuk" 咕噜肉 (Sweet & Sour Fried Pork) Rice, Score: 8/10
Chunks of pork fried and cooked over sweet and sour sauce. The fried pork are just nice with lean meat. Pineapple and tomato chunks are added for extra sweet and sour taste.
4. "KongPoh" (Dark Sauce Dried Chili) Chicken 宮保雞丁 Rice, Score: 7.5/10
Dish is cooked in dark soy sauce and dried chilis with capsicum and onions.
5. Butter (wet version) Chicken Rice, Score: 6.5/10
Chunks of chicken fried and cooked over melted butter. Nice gravy but a little too sweet.
6. Butter (dried version) Fried Fish Fillet Rice, Score: 6/10
Aromatic and sweet fried butter tossed along with fried fish fillet. Unfortunately the dish itself is too dry to eat on its own.
7. Thai-style Fried Rice, Score: 7/10
Spicy fried rice with Tom Yam sauce.
8. "YangZhou" (Chinese) Fried Rice 揚州炒飯, Score: 7.5/10
Commonly known as Chinese Fried Rice in Malaysia. Fried rice with Chinese sausage.
9. Singapore-style MeeHoon (Vermicelli) 星洲炒米粉, Score: 7/10
MeeHoon fried with chili ketchup. More sweet than spicy.
10. Mix Vege Rice, Score: 6.5/10
Mix vege and pork slices cooked over Cantonese-style thick gravy with egg.
11. "YinYong" Cantonese-style (GuangZhou) Noodles 廣府炒鴛鴦, Score: 7/10
YinYong signifies the mixture of both KuehTeow (soft) and Deep Fried MeeHoon (crispy). The Cantonese-style thick gravy is then poured over.
12. Teochew-style (ChaoZhou) Kueh Teow (Flat Rice Noodles) 潮州炒粿條, Score: 8.5/10
Very yummy Fried KuehTeow. Tasted different from normal CharKueyTeow because of the minced meat and shredded veges stir-fried together.
13. Hokkien-style (FuJian) Noodles 福建面, Score: 7/10
FuJian style sauce is a combination of dark soy sauce & light soy sauce. Noodles used are thick noodles which resembles Japanese Udon noodles.
14. Fried Glass Noodles 炒冬粉, Score: 7/10
Also known as Cellophane noodles or FenSi, the noodles are transparent. A famous dish using similar noodles in Thailand is the Claypot Prawn Glass Noodles with Basil leaves, it's to die for.
15. Fried LauShuFen (Silver pin noodles) 炒老鼠粉, Score: 7/10
Many names for this type of noodles. LauShuFen is commonly used in Malaysia but in other parts of the world, it might mean a totally different thing. Bee Tai Bak, Rat Tail Noodles, Silver Pin Noodles are some of its name.
Overall food is good. I would say above average. Worth the try.
Environment is typical Chinese coffee shop style.
Service is good and fast.
The price is reasonable.
