You mentioned that you're 30 weeks along and totally plagued by heartburn. This can be a problem that gets worse as pregnancy goes on. As your baby grows, the uterus grows and compresses more on your tummy. There are things you can try from home that don't require medication and if these things help, then that's great. But if it goes above and beyond that and the basics that I'm going to talk about in a minute aren't helping, then it would be best to talk to your doctor and they can give you advice about what medications are safe to take during pregnancy for heartburn. You mentioned that you started taking Pepcid AC. They can tell you if that's safe or not. As for natural remedies for heartburn, there's a couple of different things you can try. First of all, avoid foods that are going to increase the acid in your stomach. These are fatty foods, fried foods, spicy foods, caffeine, and carbonated drinks. Avoid eating big, large meals and laying down after meals. Try eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day and a lot of people think "if I drink with my meal, then that will force the acid down" but actually, it's better to drink in between meals. At night, if you're having an issue with it, elevate your head. Prop a whole bunch of pillows up behind you and that might help as well. Again, if these basics aren't helping, then it would be best to talk to your doctor. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and if you have any other questions for me, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at facebook.com/intermountainmoms and recommend us to your friends and family, too.
