There already a few comparisons on Youtube between the S1 (or S5) and the Pockets, but I think these are never too much.
I'm always interested to check how cameras compare under natural light and high dynamic range scenes, not studio lights.
The Blackmagic was shot in BRAW 5:1 - using the Metabones Speedbooster XL 0.64X - and the S1 in V-Log 5.9K (cropped in post). Using the S1 in the highest resolution mode compresses the noise a bit and allows for slightly better dynamic range.
They were both converted to Arri Log-C, graded in the same way and were pretty easy to match.
The S1 was shot with the stabilization turned on, but I didn't add any to the Pocket shots in post, to avoid cropping.
I shot these during some free time, in a hurry, which means the exposure wasn't always perfectly matched between cameras. Also, the lenses were very different and the coating performance had some impact in the difference between them, especially against sunlight.
In most situations, I find the dynamic range to be very identical, but in the most extreme scenes, the S1 retains highlights information slightly better.
As expected, it also has much better high ISO performance and cleaner shadows at any ISO value.
The Pocket uses better codecs and probbaly holds better when doing some extreme grades. I also prefer its colours and out of the camera look, just using a basic LUT. The S1 is more true to life.
In those situations where there a lot of fine details, like landscapes, the S1 retains a bit more information, due to the extra resolution.
I prefer the user experience of the Pocket and the fact that I can shoot up to 75fps using the whole lenght of the sensor.
For now, I think I'll keep these two and I'm selling the fp and the BMMCC (although I also love them).
I also did a very quick test bewteen the Pocket 4K, BMMCC and Sigma fp. I would like to add some different scenes to make it less boring, but it isn't always easy to carry so much gear and to find the time, so I'll probably share it soon.
Finally, I ordered a GX80 / GX85 to use as a very cheap and compact body and to carry everywhere, without worrying too much about its value (the fp is still too expensive).
I'm very curious to try it with the Metabones XL and my Nikon lenses...
