Hi, I'm Tim and welcome back to Forgotten Ghibli. In this episode we take a look at an overlooked, forgotten, yet beautiful and whimsical love letter to the very pursuit of passion and creativity - Studio Ghibli's Whisper of the Heart (1995).
An exquisitely crafted film directed by the relatively unknown Yoshifumi Kondo. Whisper of the Heart is exceptional in its realistic, relatable, and charming depiction of young teenage middle schooler Shizuku Tsukishima.
Kondo was highly regarded within Studio Ghibli. Both Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki were looking to him to take over as successor to the Ghibli empire, unfortunately this would never come to pass.
In this episode we dive into the background and history of the film and its director, as well as what makes it special to many. So please, join me on this journey as we find out what the late Kondo had to offer in his greatly overlooked masterpiece.
