Writer/Director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Gerald's Game) has done the impossible and adapted Stephen King's novel, Doctor Sleep, for the big screen. Somehow he was able to take King's novel and adapt it as a sequel to Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation of The Shining (1980). He successfully took King's text and Kubrick's vision, and married them together to create a beautiful big screen Stephen King story that should please both literary and cinematic fans alike.
40 years after the events of The Shining, Doctor Sleep follows Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor) as he struggles with alcoholism and the demons from his past. He meets a young, teenage girl named Abra (Kyliegh Curran), who also has the ability to shine, and must protect her from a cult called The True Knot, headed by Rose the Hat (Rebecca Ferguson), who feed on people who possess the shine.
This blu-ray release includes both the theatrical cut, as well as a director's cut of the film that is a full 30 minutes longer. Differences include additional and alternate scenes, a more literary structure with breaking up the movie into chapters, and adding more richness to the characters and the story as a whole.
Special Features:
- FROM SHINING TO SLEEP
- THE MAKING OF DOCTOR SLEEP: A NEW VISION
- RETURN TO THE OVERLOOK
