After ten grueling events, there can only ever be one gold medalist in the decathlon.
On home soil, Niklas Kaul saved his best to last with a sensational 76.05m throw in the javelin before completing a 4:10.04 personal best in the 1500m to claim gold.
The 2022 European Athletics Championships decathlon was won by Kaul who scored a total of 8545 points. The victory ensured Germany won the event for a second successive event having won it in Berlin 2018 too.
Switzerland's Simon Ehammer took silver with Estonia's Janek Õiglane taking bronze.
Watch the final 1500m race now, which also saw Berlin champion Arthur Abele bid farewell to the decathlon.
