We had an opportunity to photograph a lovely young couple who had their hopes set on an outdoor engagement session. While we CAN certainly do that, our BRAND is STUDIO PORTRAITURE. In these sessions we will always carry a secondary set up ready, in case of weather issues, etc.
Because there is a preferred time-of-day to do "big scene" outdoor portraits, we started earlier at the home to capture additional images and get to know our subjects prior to our time at the primary location.
Having three Godox V1 lights with modifiers (and the powerful Godox AD300 on hand if needed), we do our best in each area to get a studio quality lighting while balancing with the natural existing light at the same time. Each area was very different.
In the park we had two lights on hand, but only NEEDED one most of the time. Using the natural light as the "base" or fill, one light in a softbox is our "Key" or main light. The natural light was soft enough where we didn't really need the reflector all that much but it was also right at hand.
Rough lighting diagrams illustrate most set-ups.
