Finding old places to metal detect out in the wood of NH is not easy. All the colonial farms that were abandoned in the mid 1800s have been swallowed up by the forests. Long gone and now overgrown you have to read the landscape history and do a lot of exploring. It has taken me many years of doing this to see what I see now and here is the proof. I walked by this cellar hole several times about 10 years ago because it is so hard to see and find. Finding it today I did some relic hunting and found a few artifacts from the 1700s and 1800s buried in the ground Very exciting discovery mapping these area for historical context. Putting old sites on a map to show where the early American settlers lived up here in the mountains. Follow the rock walls and keep your eyes open.
