An associate degree in nursing (ADN) generally takes about 2-3 years to complete. Students will be trained in both classroom and clinical settings. Upon graduation from an accredited nursing school (or university), students must sit for the NCLEX-RN exam, and then they will become licensed nurses.
A bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree generally takes about four years to complete. Students will still have to take the NCLEX-RN exam upon graduation, and they will then be licensed as a registered nurse.
Both nurses perform the same scope of practice. Both nurses are highly skilled. The BSN degree is the best option if you plan to go back to school to obtain a master's degree or doctorate. An ADN degree is fine if you just want to work as a nurse and get the minimal education.
