Space Guns. That is all. Do they work? Can you go to the moon using one? Great questions. Let’s answer them.
Clarifications/Notes:
1. I forgot to include the nuclear bomb powered design because that one’s just a little too silly and impractical for our needs.
2. I am also aware of SpinLaunch. My answer to them is to just build a light-gas gun and call it a day. You can’t escape the high loading case.
3. Why not a railgun? From my research, they cap out at 3-3.5km/s for muzzle velocity (probably less). There are issues with their electronics and how long the gun itself would last. A nitro-cellulose gun or light-gas gun is more practical.
4. Yes, there were a few proposals from SDI to launch Brilliant Pebbles from a gun. I couldn’t find anything pertinent on them.
5. Still working on the lighting situation. Forgot to do lighting for the whiteboard stuff and I’m figuring out how to make the introduction setup look good. It’ll be fixed by December.
