A federal lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia (ACLU) against Hanover County Public Schools has sparked heated debate within the community.
The lawsuit, filed on July 3, alleges that the school board violated the civil rights of 11-year-old transgender middle school student “Janie Doe” by barring her from participating on the girls’ tennis team after discovering she was transgender.
