STORYLINE
Shoppers were out in scores across the United States on Friday, the day after the national holiday of Thanksgiving.
This day is the traditional start to Christmas season shopping as stores offer bargains on what is known as Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year.
Consumers started lining up outside stores on Thursday night - some retailers opened at midnight while others opened early on Friday morning.
In New York City, Macy's department store reported over five-thousand people were waiting outside the store at five in the morning.
While at the department store's Washington, DC branch a well-behaved stream of shoppers surged through the doors and quickly made a beeline for the various departments for sale items.
Across the country, in Dallas, Texas, a queue gathered outside the consumer electronics giant Best Buy for scores of holiday bargains.
