6. SOUNDBITE (English) Moshe Katzav, Israeli President:
"It is our aim for a long time, we've hoped for the day for a long time, we've hoped for the day that we can achieve real and permanent peace with our neighbours. And to bring development and prosperity to the Middle East. Mr President of Czech Republic, his wife, distinguished delegation, I welcome you and I hope in Israel you will be able to understand the better the situation in the Middle East."

"I can assure you that the Czech Republic, as a new member of the European Union will do our best to help to create a balanced approach to the Middle East and the Israeli-Palestinian problem in the European Union."

STORYLINE:
The President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus has arrived in Israel for a two day visit.
Klaus was welcomed by Israeli president Moshe Katsav on Tuesday morning.
Speaking at the official welcome ceremony, Klaus said the Czech Republic would promote a balance approach to the Israeli-Palestinian problem in the European Union.
The Czech Republic joined the EU in May 2004.
Katzav said he Israel would achieve "real and permanent peace with our neighbours."
The two men are expected to discuss bilateral relations.
Klaus is scheduled leave Israel on Thursday.
