RICHARD Huff has approximately 240 tattoos, which cover 85 percent of his body. Richard and his wife, Marita, have seven children and the couple receive judgement about Richard’s appearance and their abilities as parents. Richard said: “I get judged as a tattooed dad.” He first got a tattoo at the age of 17 before ‘it became an addiction’ and got ‘ink fever’ to now have over 200 tattoos - including several dedicated to his children. What do their children’s classmates think of Richard’s tattooed appearance? Their 9-year-old daughter, Amyah said: “They say, ‘ah it’s a bit scary’ and I say ‘no my dad is not scary, he is good with tattoos'." Marita and Richard have been together for six years and it was not exactly love at first sight. Marita reflected on her first impression and said: “I thought I was going to get robbed. I did judge Richard based on his looks at first but as I got to know him a little bit, he is actually a big-hearted person.” The comments the family receive online centre on Richard’s appearance, his ability as a father, judging Marita for involving him in her children’s lives and having more children with him. Some comments read: “How did you choose a monster to be your child’s father?” and “I feel bad for the kids to see the monster daily.” They also receive judgement for their age gap as Richard is 51 years old and Marita is 29. But the couple laugh off the comments and say they get more positive reactions in person. Neither of them are going to let the judgement deter them from inking their bodies. Marita would like to get more tattoos - though not on her face and Richard would like to be 100 percent covered. He said: “Having tattoos does not scare my children, it does not make me a bad father. It makes my kids get a different perspective on life.”
