A coastal delight
The charming little town of Kragerø is set in beautiful surroundings with a fabulous cluster of islands just off the coast. No less than 495 islands, islets and reefs are waiting for you to explore.
Kragerø lies furthest south in the county of Telemark and is home to some 11,000 residents. The atmosphere of Kragerø is an attraction in itself. Narrow streets and alleyways spread from the harbour through the town, with galleries and parks within easy walking distance.
Art and culture have long traditions in Kragerø. The coastal area’s unique light has inspired many artist, amongst them Edvard Munch and his “The Sun” and “History” for the University of Oslo.
The area abounds with opportunities for an active holiday. The surrounding district and the larger islands are ideal for tours on bicycle and scenic boat rides.
Jomfruland and Skåtøy are perfect for island-hopping with bicycles. Their landscapes are flat and easy to cycle on, and you can find places to swim almost anywhere. Other popular activities include canoeing, golf, sea rafting, and fishing.
Charming cafés, specialty shops, bars and restaurants lie side by side along most of the town’s narrow streets and lanes. Several of the restaurants and cafés can be found in the inner harbour and marina area, and all summer long concerts featuring top national and international artists are arranged in Kragerø.
