Despite going a draw that was later changed to a no-contest and a loss in his last four fights, Nico Ali Walsh hasn't given up on his dream of winning a professional boxing world championship.
Ali Walsh, the grandson of the legendary Muhammad Ali and the nephew of the undefeated women's Hall of Famer Laila Ali, fights a rematch with Sona Akale on Saturday at the Knight Center in Miami, Fla., in a card televised on ESPN.
Akale won a majority decision over Ali Walsh on Aug. 26, 2023, in Tulsa, Okla., his first career defeat. He's won two fights since to raise his record to 10-1 with a no-contest, and said he believes he won the first fight.
He is now being trained by the great Ismael Salas in Las Vegas after having been trained previously by Kay Koroma.
In this wide-ranging interview, Ali Walsh discusses his goals, where he thinks he stands in boxing; the annoyance of being asked about his grandfather all the time; his brother, Biagio's burgeoning MMA career and his work as a television commentator.
Ali Walsh has a lot to say and vowed he'll be much better on Saturday against Akale than he was previously.
Unfortunately, his phone died at the end as we were discussing the difficulties of being a TV commentator, but he gave the gist of his answer to the question.
Please like the video, as that really helps me, and subscribe for more interviews and commentary on boxing and MMA.
Thanks so much!
