The BMW X5 has been one of the most successful vehicles to come from BMW in the past 20 years, but like most BMW models, there are quite a few things that I despise about it. Keep in mind, though, the first generation BMW X5 is one of the BEST luxury SUVs I've ever driven, and for it to be from 2005, this BMW X5 is one killer SUV! Now let's breakdown the 7 things I HATE about the 2005 BMW X5 E53.

More About This Video
If you're looking for a good used luxury SUV, the first generation BMW X5 (E53) is now one of the most affordable luxury SUVs on the used car market, and average prices for a used BMW X5 from 2005 is around $5,500. However, much like every early 2000s BMW, the original X5 has some weird quirks about it that cause me to really question why BMW would do this to a car. Let's breakdown the things I hate about the BMW X5 first generation E53 (2005).
The first thing I hate about the BMW X5 E53 is harsh ride quality. Much like every other BMW, the original BMW X5 has a suspension that is way too firm compared to any modern day SUV. At the time, though, I'm sure the E53 BMW X5 suspension was much more refined that your average low end consumer car, but the X5 suspension is still far from the best. I hate that the BMW X5 has such a hard time going over normal road surfaces.
The second thing I hate about the BMW X5 is the road noise. I can't even begin to explain how bad the road noise is on the E53 BMW X5 from 2005. You would think that a luxury SUV would have a rather pleasant interior, but the 2005 BMW X5 has one of the loudest interiors I've ever heard. The road noise is one of the biggest things I hate about thing the BMW X5 E53 from 2005.
Another one of the 7 things I hate about the BMW X5 is the spotty electronics BMW has fitted in the X5. I understand the car is 13 years old now, but the electronics in even modern BMWs have a reputation for being unreliable. Because of that, the BMW X5 seems to have a mind of it's own with the radio, speakers, infotainment system, and driver information system.
The fourth thing I hate about the BMW X5 (E53 2005) is the overall styling. I understand this design came out in 1999, but the 2005 X5 looks AWFUL compared to other luxury SUVs at the time. For example, the Range Rover P38 and L322 were both designed around the time that the BMW X5 E53 was out, and their design absolutely blows the BMW X5 away. The rear tailgate on the BMW X5 is one of the most awkward looking design elements I've ever seen on a SUV.
Another one of the top things I hate about the BMW X5 is the uncomfortable seats. Over the past 160,000 miles, I'm sure the seats are nowhere near as comfortable in the BMW X5 as they were when the car originally came out, but the seats in the BMW X5 have NOT withstood the test of time whatsoever. The BMW X5 has some of the worst seats that I've ever felt in the luxury SUV. Unfortunately, too, most all early 2000s BMW models have some of the worst seats I've ever sat in. The BMW X5 seats are one of the biggest things I hate about this luxury SUV.
The last two things I hate about the BMW X5 can really be combined into one category - interior quality for the passengers. The BMW X5 some of the worst buttons that I've ever seen fitted to a luxury vehicle, and the buttons feel like they're always about to fall off. On top of that, the infotainment system in the BMW X5 is without a doubt the worst I've ever seen. Even for the 2005 model, the infotainment system is absolutely useless for the driver. The infotainment system is the biggest thing I HATE about the BMW X5 E53 from 2005.
Thanks for watching this video on the 7 things I HATE about the BMW X5 E53 from 2005. Hopefully you enjoyed my rant about the E53 BMW X5 (first generation).
