Channeled Whelk: Busycotypus canaliculatus (Linnaeus, 1758)
This is a Channeled Whelk! It has a large pear-shaped dextral shell. Each coil is smooth with a deep groove along the spiral. They can be found on the Atlantic coast of the United States from Massachusetts to Florida. They have also been introduced to parts of California. They are predatory snails that feed on bivalves like clams and oysters. It is the official state shell of Delaware.
