My friend Jack loves orange chicken, and he loves nuts, particularly cashews. He asked me whether I could show him a recipe that will combine orange chicken and nuts in a single dish. I told him that he could use template-based cooking, which would allow him to create multiple versions of the basic template. This dish is first built upon the basic stir-fry chicken template, which is simple and easy to perform. Secondly, the dish is modified to create the orange flavor using a different template for seasoning. Lastly, nuts are being added to the dish as another template. Therefore, this orange chicken with nuts is based on three different templates in an hierarchical order. Each of the templates could be modified to create variations. The results are the possibilities in creating infinite variations. Jack has been using these templates to create some interesting and unusual combinations in ways that are entirely his creation.
