How Cuba has managed to have what they call ‘an army in white lab coats,’ is one of the hallmarks of the Cuban Revolution. Because of this, a number of countries in Africa have in the past relied on the importation of Cuban doctors to ease a critical shortage of healthcare workers. Kenya is the latest country to look to Cuba for help, with the importation of 100 Cuban doctors, to ease staffing shortages in rural health facilities and deal with increasing threats of industrial action by local medical practitioners.
