At some time in their career, many attorneys are likely to encounter clients with diminished decision-making capacity due to a disability. Clients with diminished capacity often have unique needs and require accommodations within the attorney-client relationship. This program will provide attorneys information about the ethical rules related to representing clients with diminished capacity, and provide attorneys with strategies to address ethical concerns when representing such clients. This program will also provide attorneys with information regarding requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act to ensure the accessibility of legal services for individuals with physical disabilities. Additionally, this program will provide tips and strategies for attorneys to ensure that their services are accessible for individuals with physical disabilities.
Speaker: Asim Dietrich has been an attorney at the Arizona Center for Disability Law (ACDL) since 2011. He advocates for the legal rights of individuals with various disabilities. His work includes the representation of individuals who have experienced abuse, neglect and discrimination due to their disabilities and individuals who have been denied medical and mental health care services. Asim presently serves as the Supervisory Attorney for Investigations, Monitoring and Accountability; and coordinator of ACDL's Protection & Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illness program. Asim was admitted to the State Bar of Arizona in 2010 after earning his law degree from the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University.
